This week on the Border News Round-up, Editor of the Timberjay - Marshall Helmberger reported on the ousting as the DFL Leader, Tom Bakk,  prior to the session starting, this year's winter fest in Ely and the merger of NE Minnesota Community Colleges.


Marshall Helmberger was off this week at the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Annual Gathering in the Twin Cities... he also was a guest on MPR News with Angela Davis talking about the threats facing rural Minnesota's community newspapers. 


This week on the Friday Morning Show Marshall reports on the top stories from this this week's Timberjay newspaper including St. Louis County's board meeting where they tabled the vote on refugee resettlement until May, speculation on the abandoned Shopko building in Ely and the latest from the MN Chrismtas bird counts in northern MN.

This week Marshall from the Timberjay newspaper has a lot to report - on a recent Court of Appeals overturning of a water permit for Minntac that was a win for both sides - US Steel as well as environmental groups.  He also tells us the reason behind an interim rate hike for MN Power customers and a dip into the effect of wind turbines on bird deaths. 

Marshall Helmberger fills us in on Tower City Government, the DNRs decision to do their own environmental review for the Twin Metals Project (proposed copper nickel mining near the Boundary Waters), the lack of pine grosbeaks at the feeder and 30 years of the Timberjay newspaper.
