Tessa Beck is the Gallery Director at the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids.  She spoke on the morning show recently about the Nemeth's delayed opening due to Covid-19,  the current, collaborative exhibit Of Course, Where Else, and how the Nemeth is thinking outside the box in terms of programming, artist receptions, virtual exhibits, and more.

Art possesses the unique super power of bringing people together.  The Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids, MN is hosting a unique arts collaboration this summer that has connected Columbian-born visual artist Luisa Fernanda Garcia-Gomez  with northern Minnesota textile artist Bruce Engebretson.  Toget

“It really opens your mind, it gets you exposed to a bigger world.  It triggers a whole different part of our brain…It’s actually been proven that it boosts cognitive abilities and it’s something that absolutely everyone can enjoy.” Nicolle LaFleur on the importance of accessible arts experiences.

On the first Friday of every month, we connect with three women around the listening area who help us discover the arts and cultural happenings across the KAXE/KBXE region.

For the second year, the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids is collaborating with the Minneapolis College of Art & Design(MCAD) to create a significant opportunity for 15-18 year old students.  Between now and April 13th, the Nemeth is accepting art submissions for their upcoming student show.  The top sophomore or junior year student in the exhibit will receive a scholarship worth $3,400 that covers all costs associated with the MCAD Pre-College Summer Session.  This opportunity allows for a unique campus arts experience for students considering art as a career.  In addition to the first place scholarship, cash prizes will be offered to the top three artists in the exhibit.

It's the first Friday of the month and that means we check in with the arts scenes across the listening area.

The second annual Take a Walk on the Wild Side Wild Rice Festival will take place tomorrow, October 21 in Park Rapids.  We spoke with Nemeth Art Center Executive Director and Take a Walk on the Wild Side event co-coordinator Michael Dagen about the festivities.  There will be a public art project going on, art classes, and, food vendors and, of course, lots of wild rice.

Northern Minnesota is rich in arts experiences and August is overflowing with arts action.   Photography exhibits, open mic music opportunities, artist talks, opportunities to attend world class orchestra and chamber music, a call for wearable art, and outdoor yoga accompanied by a cellist are all part of this report.
