Lyn Rye challenged herself to write and record a demo of a song once a week. Instead of a pile of new songs, the work resulted in her latest album "Roots of Rye" which is available now. The band stopped by the studio to play a live set and talk about their midwest tour ending in Bemidji. Hear the whole conversation by clicking below.

Hear New Music with Kari Hedlund every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 2 and 10.

One of the founder of The Pines, David Huckfelt, is out with a solo album Stranger Angels. If you've listened to The Pines, or heard the new album, you know the beautiful works from this man. Joined by many of his great musical friends, the album covers the natural world, love, and the human connection.

The ever popular CenterStage Minnesota Concert Series will be back this fall for its fourth season! So far, this collaboration between KAXE/KBXE and The Reif Center has brought some seriously incredible acts to Grand Rapids in a one of a kind listening room; The Lowest Pair, jeremy messersmith, The Pines, Bad Bad Hats, Pert Near Sandstone, Erik Koskinen, The Cactus Blossoms, Actual Wolf, Gaelynn Lea...maybe I should just list all of the bands that have come because honestly, every show offers stunning talents from around Minnesota.

jeremy messersmith has been out and about throughout Grand Rapids all week long. If you've missed him, you weren't looking! Listen to our conversation with jeremy when he stopped by New Music earlier this week. He talks about longing for his music to find it's way into listeners hearts, rewriting hymns for amusement in his youth, and outer space real estate agents.

The band Dancing Light stopped by the KBXE studio in Bemidji recently to sing a couple songs and tell a few stories. Their long career locally means there was lots to talk about. It was fun to have Greg, Kiki, and Sabbastian on the air live. Hear the whole conversation by clicking below.

From Austin, Texas, folk duo Dawn & Hawkes came through the KAXE studio last week while in Northern Minnesota.

Listen below to hear a couple songs from their beautiful new album, The Other Side, how they write together as a married couple, trying to make the world a better place through music, and perhaps most shockingly, they still listen to an ipod!

Nooky Jones brought some soul to Bemidji along with Fargo hip hop band, D Mills and the Thrills. KAXE/KBXE on-air volunteer, Shane Kingsland went to the show at Rail River Folk School, and had this review for us (DISCLAIMER: this may make you really upset that you missed the show. In that case, don't miss out next time!):
