On February 4th, four people affiliated with the Catholic Workers Movement broke into a site near Blackberry in Itasca County where Enbridge Energy Company operates valves that control the flow of crude oil through pipelines that follow the highway 2 corridor across northern MN.

Our reporter, Scott Hall, recently looked back at the crude oil pipeline rupture that occurred near Grand Rapids in March of 1991.  The oil spilled onto a wetland and through a storm sewer to the Prairie River – about one point seven million gallons in all.

Tuesday March 7th, 2017 was the U.S State Department's only public meeting on the proposed Line 67 (formerly known as the Alberta Clipper) .  Enbridge needs to get Presidential approval to cross from Canada into the U.S.   According to Enbridge, there's an increased need for oil and with Line 67 they will be able to transport 890,000 gallons of oil a day instead of 500,000 safely.  This oil will move into Enbridge's new Line 3 along this route

Barry Simonson is the Director of Line 3 Pipeline Execution for Enbridge Energy and he recently talked with us about their expansion plans for transportation across northern MN.  Enbridge has had oil pipelines for over 60 years and they say that because of demand for increased oil and energy consumption what they currently operate can not adequately accommodate needs of their customers safely.
