Each Friday morning Marshall Helmberger tells us some of the stories his newspaper, the Timberjay, has been covering.  The lead story this week is about a man from Nett Lake who found his grandfather's manuscript and published it.  It's called "Savage Ancestors" and was probably written in the 1930s.  Marshall also tells us about the Governor Mark Dayton's trip to Ely to talk water quality.

Every week Timberjay publisher and editor Marshall Helmberger tells us about the stories he's been covering.  This week a tragic house fire, a look at the opinions and economics of copper nickel mining, Rep.

We spoke with Ellen Cashman from the Ely Chamber of Commerce about the upcoming Blueberry & Art Festival in Ely!  It's going on this weekend - Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday.  There seems to be something for everyone, so if you're out and about, check it out.

Brian Naykki manages the Ely Farmers Market.  The Ely Market  prides itself on being the Minnesota farmers market with the shortest growing season.  That said, yesterday it hosted 42 vendors selling a variety of products including strawberries, vegetables, kombucha, oven fired pizza, syrup, and local art.   Ely may have the shortest growing season in the state, but it celebrates gardening in a big way. From vegetable races to the kid-focused plant-your-own-pizza party to rhubarb leaf contests, Ely gets into its Farmers Market.

On the first Friday of each month we connect with people across the listening region to find out what is going on in the arts scenes in their towns.  In this segment, we make our way from Grand Rapids to Ely to Bemidji, Brainerd and Bagley! So much happening.  Get out and enjoy the creative spirit of northern Minnesota!
