We are continuing our Meet the Candidates conversations for the November 3rd 2020 elections.  We recently talked with Alan Roy (DFL) running for MN Senate in District 2 against incumbent Senator Paul Utke (R).  Senator Utke has been scheduled for an upcoming interview to be heard on Wednesday September 9th from 9-10am. 

It is our goal to give you information so you can go to the polls ready to vote.

Rep. Julie Sandstede On the End of the 2020 MN Legislative Session

Julie Sandstede, DFL Representative from Hibbing, joined Heidi and John on the Thursday Morning Show to talk about the recent legislative session.  Julie talks about what her priorities were going into the session and how they changed as things progressed during the pandemic.  They talk about the poliltcal tension that the pandemic caused during the session and the possiblity of holding a special session soon.

In 2020 we will continue our coverage of elections and politics and government as it affects northern MN.

We talked to Peter Callaghan this week - he covers state government for MinnPost.  He recently had an article that looked into the politics of legalizing recreational marijuana - especially as it relates to MN's DFL party. From his article:


Today on Making Sausage we talked with DFL commentator Colleen Nardone and Grand Village Executive Director Kyle Hedlund.  Colleen has a long history with how the legislative process works and talked about what budget targets the DFL was happy for, and what may have been better.  The session ended Monday night, but lots more work to be done in conference committee and a special session.

We're getting down to the wire at the MN Legislature.  Minnesota is the only state in the union that has a divided government right now with a DFL governor, DFL majority House and a Republican majority Senate.  Before the legislative session began there was high hopes on "working across the aisle" and compromise.
