Aaron Spangler

Aaron Spangler grew up in Park Rapids, graduated from MCAD and went on to become a world renowned artist.  He lives with his wife-author and chef Amy Thielen and their son in a home he built himself nestled deep in the forest between Park Rapids and Two Inlets.

MacRostie Arts Center

  The First Friday of each month is exciting in northern  Minnesota... it's when people in communities all around our listening area get out and enjoy the arts!  In this morning show segment, Heidi and John talk with Katie Marshall from the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids about the art happenings in Grand Rapids tonight.   They also talk with artist Krista Matison about her work and path as an artist.  Get out and enjoy the weather and the arts! 

  Minnesota leads the nation in support for artists and the arts.  Sheila Smith is the Executive Director of MN Citizens for the Arts.   She stopped by the KBXE studio to talk about a comprehensive study measuring the economic impact of the arts on Minnesota communities.   She also talked about the impact arts experiences have on our communities that goes beyond economics.   Wondering how your community and region of the state measures up?  Check out the findings of the study at Creativemn.org

Leaning Cedars Studios

Stained glass artists Kellie and Jordan Lindquist envisioned a life nestled in the woods and infused with creativity.   After living on the west coast for several years, they returned to northern  Minnesota  to  make their dream a reality. Their home near Pennington, MN is also home to Leaning Cedars Studios where they focus their energy on stained glass art along with other forms of artistic expression.

It's the First Friday of the month and that means all kinds of fantastic things are going on around our listening area!  This morning we heard from Chelsea Johnson of  the MacRostie Arts Center in Grand Rapids, Molly Olson from the Ely Folk School and Katie Carter from the KBXE studio in downtown Bemidji.  Take a listen to find out what's going on!
