Art

Every first Friday of the month we chat with Katie Marshall from the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Molly Olson from the Ely Folk School, and Area Voices producer Katie Carter.  These gals connect us to the various arts events happening around the listening area.  There is a lot going on!  Click on the links to hear what's happening near you!

For the second year, the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids is collaborating with the Minneapolis College of Art & Design(MCAD) to create a significant opportunity for 15-18 year old students.  Between now and April 13th, the Nemeth is accepting art submissions for their upcoming student show.  The top sophomore or junior year student in the exhibit will receive a scholarship worth $3,400 that covers all costs associated with the MCAD Pre-College Summer Session.  This opportunity allows for a unique campus arts experience for students considering art as a career.  In addition to the first place scholarship, cash prizes will be offered to the top three artists in the exhibit.

Master printmaker, educator and inventor Dan Welden has traveled the world sharing his non-toxic solarplate printing process.  He recently stopped by the technology, art and design department at Bemidji State University.

The Creative Spirit Fiber Festival kicks off tomorrow night and continues all day Saturday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji.  Fiber artists Lori Forshee-Donnay and Bonnie Lundorff stopped by the studio to tell us all about it.

Brainerd and Bemidji, MN both have some great opportunities in February for people to experience art, meet other creative folks and express themselves.  Area Voices producer Katie Carter broke it down for us on the morning show.   She told us about the February shows at the Crossing Arts Alliance in Brainerd, what's happening at the Watermark Art Center, then she tipped us off to some of the exhibits on the First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji.  Click on the link for the full report!
