Since 1970, Earth Daycelebrations have given voice to a growing consciousness regarding environmental concerns. In honor of Earth Day, many communities in our listening area will host Earth Day events. In the town of Mountain Iron, they've been celebrating Earth Day in a big way for the past 10 years with the Iron Range Earth Fest(IREF). IREF has grown into a comprehensive experience delving into the many ways people can live more sustainably and tap into the knowledge of local experts for advice on regional products, services, foods, traditions and our wilderness.
Mesabi Range College chemistry and biology instructor Kimberlee Giermann will be presenting the workshop "Backyard Herbs: Food and Medicine" at 11a.m. at the conference. We spoke with her on the morning show about herbs, tinctures, and eco-gardening.
TheIron Range Earth Fest kicks off Friday nightwith a presentation of the documentary "Lost Iron Range" and continues Saturday from 9a.m. to 3p.m.. Events include hands on activities, a local marketplace, cooking and sustainability demonstrations, food provided by Natural Harvest Co-op, music by Gaelynn Lea and Silver Wilder, and much, much more.
