On the latest installment of What We're Reading, Grand Rapids Area Library children's librarian Tracy Kampa reviewed new picture and middle-grade books.
She was especially excited to include a new novel by Minnesota author Kate DiCamillo.
“When I get a new Kate DiCamillo book, in my hand, I pause,” Kampa said. “I look at the cover and wonder at what and who I may find when I open to the first page.”
DiCamillo’s new novel is The Puppets of Spelhorst and is the first book in her new Norendy Tales series.
"It’s a story meant to be shared."Tracy Kampa on Kate DiCamillo's new novel "The Puppets of Spelhorst."
In The Puppets of Spelhorst, we meet five friends — a king, a wolf, a girl, a boy and an owl shut in a trunk by an old sea captain. Kampa explained, “Each end up on adventures of their own only to come back together to realize their destiny.”
She said it’s a story meant to be shared.
Kampa also highly recommends the following books:
- Don’t Worry, Wuddles, by Lita Judge.
- Good Books for Bad Children, by Beth Kephart, illustrated by Chloe Bristol.
- Mixed Up, by Gordon Korman.
