You're the One is Rhiannon Giddens' first solo album in six years and her first of all original songs.
With the focus on her songwriting, Giddens addresses failed relationships, finding love, and social injustice.
The centerpiece of the album is a duet with Jason Isbell, "Yet to Be." The song tells the story of a young Black woman who runs away from home and falls in love with an Irish immigrant.
Her skill with storytelling is no surprise. The new album follows a May Pulitzer prize win for Omar, an opera she co-wrote with Michael Abels.
