Aurora Baer recently released an album of songs she wrote and recorded in 2012, Rory.

Aitkin musician Aurora Baer joined Centerstage Minnesota, Aug. 25, 2023.

AITKIN — Aurora Baer knows she can be hard on herself.

“I might be highly judgmental,” said Baer, speaking on Centerstage Minnesota. “I was probably judgmental of the vocals. Who knows.”

The Aitkin-based musician was referring to tracks from her “new” album Rory. The songs were written and recorded in 2012, working with Rich Mattson at Sparta Sound Studios. Until this year, they sat unheard on a flash drive.

When she recently came across the songs, she had a different reaction.

“I opened them up and thought, ‘These are fine,’” Baer said. “They were just a picture of what we were doing at the time.”

After reaching out to original producer Mattson and getting more positive feedback, she decided to give the songs a proper release with her nickname as the title.

Since the recordings were made in 2012, Baer moved from Duluth back to her hometown of Aitkin. The town has seen a big increase in live music opportunities over the last few years. This Saturday, Aug. 25, Baer and other Minnesota musicians will perform in downtown Aitkin at the Third Annual Ripplesippi Music Fest.
