The unofficial final week of summer is upon us, with lots to do, including a Bemidji play premiere, a Lake Bemidji State Park pancake breakfast and the Native American Music and Arts Festival.

Here are some events to check out this week, Aug. 26-Sept. 1.

Monday, Aug. 26

  • Book sale hosted by the Friends of the Grand Rapids Area Library - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Grand Rapids Area Library
  • For the Love of Loons interactive book presentation, with author Laura Purdie Salas - 2:30 p.m., Park Rapids Area Library
  • Central Lakes College musical ensembles director meet and greet and optional auditions - 4-8 p.m., Music Rehearsal Hall, Central Lakes College, Brainerd

Tuesday, Aug. 27

  • For the Love of Loons interactive book presentation, with author Laura Purdie Salas - 10:30 a.m., Bemidji Public Library; 2 p.m., Blackduck Public Library
  • Local author Robert Saxton presents new young adult novel Shades of a Warrior - 6 p.m., Bemidji Public Library; reception follows at Bemidji Brewing at 7 p.m.

Playwright Jeremiah Liend is a recipient of the Region 2 Arts Grant to produce his original play "Irresponsible Men, Irresponsible Women." He discusses how the play came to be and how he first became interested in theater.
