Potlucks are a staple of Minnesota life, it seems.

What we bring to potlucks — or what people beg us to bring to potlucks — can be a badge of honor. Maybe it's your grandma's potato salad, or a pan of bars that took you years of trial and error to make just right.

After this year's Green Cheese potluck picnic, we are wondering, "What's your favorite thing to bring to a potluck?"

Here's what we heard

Andy from Brainerd texted, "Ah, potluck. I take Reuben egg rolls and blow people away!"

"Deviled eggs!" said Susan from Minneapolis.

From our news director, Chelsey Perkins: "My favorite thing to bring to a potluck is my family's famous Pickle Dip. It's the most simple thing in the world to make but is otherworldly in its flavor and addictiveness, if you like pickles.

"All it is? Cream cheese, chopped dill pickles, and enough pickle juice to make it really pickle-y without becoming too runny. It's a delicate balance to ensure all the chopped pickles don't sink to the bottom.

"No, you can't use relish. No, you can't use anything BUT full-fat cream cheese. And yes, it is amazing with potato chips but I put that stuff on everything."

Brenda from Grand Rapids would bring brownies with chocolate chips, and our engineer Steve Neu says homemade mac and cheese.

Our reporter Larissa Donovan said, "Kytharaki. It's like Greek Spaghetti-Os, ultimate comfort dish, very budget friendly and one of few yiayia [grandma] recipes that don't take three hours of active cooking minimum.

"In summer I make a Greek pasta salad with kalamata olives, feta, cukes, tomatoes with my secret dressing!"

Penny from Talmoon commented, "I am usually requested to bring pie or potato salad. I guess those are my specialties. That, or they figure, 'How bad can she screw that up?'”
