Centerstage Minnesota features music in all genres from artists from all corners of the state. The most recent show features an interview with Joe Carey, long-time musician, whose smart songwriting and nimble guitar work create a strong mix.

Duluth musician, Teague Alexy (of Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank) is stopping by New Music today to debut a new song from the Circuit Sessions EP on KAXE/KBXE! Look for his new EP to be released 4/4/17.

Teague will be playing a live version of this brand new song (below) during the 2pm hour today. Tune in!

Record Store Day

Mar 24, 2017

Record Store Day is honored around the world (except on Antarctica),  celebrating and spreading the word about the unique culture surrounding independently owned record stores. Three years ago, we wanted to get involved, but unfortunately don't have any record stores to partner with in our listening area. So we created our own pop up record store, open only on Record Store Day, selling used vinyl.

The distance between Funkytown and the Temperance River Blues may not be as far as you think. Tune in to Centerstage Minnesota Friday’s at 2:00 and 10:00 for a journey through a host of Minnesota musical destinations. This week includes a listen to the newest album St.

I was lucky enough to have some special guests in the studio during New Music this week - Bemidji boys Corey Medina & Brothers along with The Incepticons came by to play some of their brand spanking new songs for us. They were also our guests for the CenterStage Concert Series at The Reif Center on Thursday.

Check out the video they put together!

Monroe Crossing has been making bluegrass and mograss (motown and bluegrass) for the past 17 years. In this week's Centerstage Minnesota, I talk to Matt Thompson, who plays mandolin for the band and has been a bluegrass fan since childhood. Hear the interview as part of the whole show by clicking here. There is always a great mix of music on Centerstage Minnesota.

During this week's Centerstage Minnesota, I saw that Baby Shel overslept, so I played a song by Grand Rapids native Actual Wolf to help him wake up. Each week I feature Minnesota artists playing folk, rock, blues, jazz, and world music. Whether it's to wake you up at home, or keep you cruising at work, join me every Friday at 2 and 10 for the only show featuring all Minnesota musicians in the area.

Giving Music to Kids

Feb 25, 2017

My 10 year old nephew, is starting to discover music. Just went to his first concert, is playing an instrument, and is always asking for iTunes gift cards to purchase music. There are some albums (see pictures above) that stick out as integral in my music growth, starting around that age. And I want to expose him to those! But it's not as simple as going out and buying him a CD (no CD player) or vinyl (no record player). And I don't suppose I can give him a gift card with the caveat that he must buy a specific album, right?

I had lots of fun putting together this week's Centerstage Minnesota show. You can hear a cut from the new album by Hippo Campus, and go back in time with Jonathan Rundman's cover of Come Sail Away. Centerstage Minnesota features Minnesota artists in an eclectic mix of folk, rock, blues, jazz, and world music. Tune in every week from 2-4 to hear the awesome talents of local musicians.
