New Music

Tuesday - Thursday 2pm-4pm & 10pm-mid

New Music specializes in new releases, bringing listeners "the best of the new" as chosen by Northern Community Radio's music director. Rock, folk/Americana, blues, soul, world beat and jazz are all represented in the mix.

Every Friday afternoon, we seek out the best in music from our great state--from the hyper local music of Harmonica Rich to Grammy Award winner, Dan Wilson. We just like good music and bringing it to you Fridays from 2-4 and 10-Midnight on Centerstage Minnesota.

Tune in Friday's to Centerstage Minnesota. Every week I try to find the most interesting mix of music from all over the state. This week's show features Monroe Crossing, Sarah Morris, Trampled by Turtles and so much more. You can hear the whole program by clicking here for PRX.

This week on Centerstage Minnesota the guests live in the neighborhood--except the guy from Norway. Hear an interview with local musicians Barit Dybing and Caige Jambor and their Norwegian friend Erlend Odnes Kløvning about their band project Bare Land.

Two interviews mark this episode of Centerstage Minnesota. In the first hour, hear Siama and Dallas Johnson singing and telling the stories of the journey from the Congo to Minnesota.

He may not have intended to start a trend, but I hope Jeremy Messersmith's micro-tour of Minnesota becomes one.

Train your ears on the talented musicians played each week during Centerstage Minnesota at 2 and 10 on Fridays. From The Hobo Nephews to Mayda, we hear the wide variety of musical talent from our great state. To hear this fun music from the May 5th show, click here for PRX.

Prince left a musical legacy yet to be fully known. A year after his death, his archived music remains mostly in storage. On the April 21st edition of Centerstage Minnesota, I offer up some great Prince songs and some special features from NPR.  There's lots of other great music, too. Heare the whole show by clicking here for PRX.

Solving the question about new music in Minnesota, I talk to Rob Pieh of Little Riddles this week. The band played Duluth and Bemidji recently, and is set to produce a new single complete with video this summer.

Our CenterStage Concert series, which started this year along with The Reif Center (in Grand Rapids), is almost wrapping up! April and May are the last two shows of the year, and both are worth your time on the town. Promise.

Did you see familiar faces performing on Conan O'Brien last night?? Dave Simonett & his Dead Man Winter crew impressed the host (and pretty sure Conan would have liked to walk away with Erik Koskinen's guitar...) and surely came away with more fans.
