A Traveling Nurse on the Navajo Nation in Arizona: Listening to Karla Theilen

National Public Radio's Rachel Martin reported earlier this week how one rural area has more COVID-19 cases per capita than nearly any other place in the United States: the Navajo Nation.

Today on the Friday Morning Show Heidi Holtan talked with Karla Theilen.  Karla grew up in the Brainerd area in Minnesota and now is a traveling nurse. 10 years ago she got her first job in nursing in Arizona on the Navajo Nation.  Because of the pandemic, Karla decided to go back.

The Navajo Nation COVID-19 Fund has been established to help the Navajo Nation respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heidi Holtan is KAXE's Director of Content and Public Affairs where she manages producers and is the local host of Morning Edition from NPR. Heidi is a regional correspondent for WDSE/WRPT's Duluth Public Television’s Almanac North.
