Senator Tina Smith on Energy Efficiency Standards, Tribal Government and Homeless Assistance Funding

All eyes are on Washington DC today as Robert Mueller from the Justice Department will be testifying before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committee.

There are others things that are going on as well.  Senator Tina Smith, along with Senator Amy Klobuchar represent MN in Washington at the Senate.

From time to time we get to check in with the senators and today Senator Tina Smith joined us to talk about:

Energy Efficiency Resource Standard
Sen. Smith’s bill would create a Federal Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS) for retail electricity and natural gas suppliers and require a certain percentage of energy savings each year.

Tribal Eligibility for Continuum of Care Program
Tribal governments and tribal housing authorities are currently ineligible to participate in most homeless assistance funds. Her bill would change that so tribal governments are eligible to submit applications for project funds and would also make tribal governments and tribal housing authorities eligible to serve as a planning body themselves and administer grants within their areas.

Butch Lewis Act
The Butch Lewis Act would help protect the pensions of retirees in Minnesota and across the country.
