Phenology Report: 12/15/20

Brandon Lentz via KAXE-KBXE Season Watch FB Page
Great Gray, Lake County

Phenology is the rhythmic biological nature of events as they relate to climate.  Each week, our resident phenologist John Latimer closely assesses the subtle changes happening outside and gives a full, official phenology report.  This week John discusses our recent warm spell, ice skating, green plants in the forest and he educates us on the logistical reason behind star-nosed moles storing fat in their tails!

All that and more in the full report!

KAXE-KBXE Northern Community Radio is listener funded.  If you appreciate that programming like this exists in the world, consider making a year-end contribution to the station to ensure we can continue this service for years to come!

Check out our Season Watch page on Facebookfor more pics, videos and conversation about what's happening outside!

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
