If you are interested in becoming a Phenology reporter but not sure where to start, this could be for you. John Latimer has created an easy-to-use tracking sheet for budding Phenologists of all ages. The worksheet lists a variety of seasonal events, along with the average date from John's records, and space for your notes. Penny Holcomb

Penny has been with Northern Community Radio since 2004, handling a variety of finance, accounting, grants, human resource and operations functions. As Director of Business Services, she also oversees the underwriting sales and membership fundraising teams. Penny is an avid reader and coordinates the Northern Community Radio book clubs. A California native, she currently lives in rural Talmoon with her husband and rescue dogs, Buddy and Riley.

John Latimer

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
