Friday mornings during Border News Roundup we get a chance to check in with Marshall Helmberger, the editor and publisher of The Timberjay newspaper serving NE Minnesota. This week we hear about the Eagles Nest Township Board voting in favor of creating a new township road to provide easy water access for fire trucks to refill their tanks during a fire. Marshall tells us about the St. Louis County School District repeatedlyviolating the state’s Open Meeting Law, restricting the public and the media from attending. He hopes that this will be a reminder for other governing bodies throughout the state to reexamine what they are doing.
Marshall reported the ice was out on Lake Vermilion on April 15th, two weeks earlier than usual. With increased fishing pressure on Lake Vermilion, local organizations are proposing a voluntary conservation limits, asking people to reduce their walleye take from four fish to only two.
