...we know that pollinators are really important to ecosystem health. They not only keep up the plants in our local community in lots of different ways by moving around to the flowers, but they also pollinate...when we go into grocery story, the produce section wouldn't be possible without pollinators... pollinators are the ones that make that happen. - Erika Bailey-Johnson
Bemidji State University, the Watermark Art Center, the Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department, the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society and Neilson Spearhead Center are collaborating for the fourth annual Monarch Butterfly Festival in Bemidji! The two week event includes art exhibits, art projects, garden tours, gardening advice and much more – all in the name of celebrating pollinators! We spoke with Erika Bailey-Johnson, BSU Sustainability Director, about the importance of monarchs and other pollinators, which plants attract and feed monarchs, and of course we discussed the many events that are part of this festival!
