Making Sausage: MN Special Session and Nursing Home Funding

http://www.ecumengrand.org/
Kyle Hedlund at the MN State Capitol

Today on Making Sausage we talked with DFL commentator Colleen Nardone and Grand Village Executive Director Kyle Hedlund.  Colleen has a long history with how the legislative process works and talked about what budget targets the DFL was happy for, and what may have been better.  The session ended Monday night, but lots more work to be done in conference committee and a special session.

Also in the studio with us this morning was Kyle Hedlund, executive director of Grand Village nursing home in Grand Rapids.  Kyle has spent time at the MN Legislature this year due to proposed cuts of $68 million to MN nursing homes in the House Health and Human Services Bill - House File 2414/SF 2570.  The Senate bill does not include the cuts, but the House does.  Kyle explains how this funding, originally in 2015 to invest in the staff and care of their patients, has changed the facility for the better.

As always, when legislation impacts you or you have strong feelings towards it KAXE/KBXE recommends you get involved in the process.  Legislators are elected by citizens of MN and they need your input on the legislation they consider.

Also a good reminder from Kyle - to not only contact your legislators, but take the time to thank a caregiver.  Necessary, and definitely not easy jobs in our communities.
