Let's Visit Debs: A conversation with Diane Schwanz

Diane Schwanz

"We landed there by default.  We were lost...we thought we were lost, til we got to the Debs Store....all of the sudden we were just at this cute little general store. I don't even know if Debs had a sign there then...We just loved it from the minute we got in the store...and we said, 'is there any property for sale around here? We just need an old farmhouse or some bare land'...I looked at that old farmhouse in the dark and went back to [South Dakota] and...when that academic year was over in May, I loaded all my stuff up on a horsetrailer and brought me and a horse up." - Diane Schwanz on how she ended up in Debs, MN

Diane Schwanz fell in love with Debs, MN the first time she visited. She's called the hamlet home ever since.  In this segment of Let's Visit, Diane shares stories of life in Debs including tales of bachelors who shared sweet soup with new moms, how Debs got its name and much more.
