Bestselling Author Tim O'Brien Talks with Heidi and John About "Dad's Maybe Book"

We were honored to speak with bestselling and award winning Tim O'Brien this morning.

Tim O’Brien’s novels include The Things They Carried, If I Die in a Combat Zone, In the Lake of the Woods, among others.

He won the National Book Award and in 2013 he was awarded the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing.

O'Brien was interviewed for Ken Burns' 2017 documentary series, "The Vietnam War" and he was a co-writer on the Vietnam episodes of the NBC series "This Is Us." Raised in Minnesota, he now lives in Austin, Texas.

His new book is out - started as scribbles on paper in his desk that were letters to his sons.  Tim had kids late - becoming a father at 58 and he knew he wouldn't be around for all their lives and wanted to make sure he left something behind for them.  He said:

“We are all writing our maybe books full of maybe tomorrows, and each maybe tomorrow brings another maybe tomorrow, and then another, until the last line of the last page receives its period.”
