Area Voices: Eric Sundeen & the BSU Percussion Ensemble

“For me, when I’m playing or when I’m performing, it’s kind of like my own church… it’s home base for me…  It fills me up when I play.  It gives me a lot of energy and just that incentive to always improve and always get better.” – Eric Sundeen, Percussionist

Eric Sundeen directs the Bemidji State University Percussion Ensemble.   The ensemble is made up of a variety of people with one thing in common – they play percussion.  Music majors, nursing majors, math majors, English majors and Bemidji residents who don’t attend BSU come together to create this unique, mesmerizing musical experience.  Xylophones, marimbas, snare drums, vibraphones, orchestra bells, drum sets, concert toms, gongs and numerous other instruments will fill the recital stage and from them, powerful, rhythmic music will fill the concert hall.

In this Area Voices Segment, Sundeen discusses his own musical roots as well as the music included in tonight’s program.  The concert starts at 7:30pm tonight in the Bangsberg Recital Hall on the Bemidji State University campus.  It’s a free event and everyone is welcome.
