Album of the Week: Peace in Trouble by Sunday Wilde

Listening to our Album of the Week, Peace in Trouble, you might get the feeling that you have somehow time-traveled to the 1930s and are walking into a speakeasywhile taking a drag off a really long cigarette. But alas, you're here, in the whole new world that is 2021, likely without that long cigarette. Sunday Wilde has consistently proved the ability to make you feel like you're in another time. Her sound is fully retro, while not venturing into kitschy territory.

Wilde didn't venture too far to record this album - she lives in a small town in northern Ontario, and recorded with her piano in her living room. No drums, no guitars at all on this album, which also adds to the retro vibe, taking the sound back to an era where vocals and the piano were center stage. She recruited asisstance from the clarinet which gets some great exposure, upright bass for the backing rhythm, trombone gets a little time in the spotlight, and finally her guest, Harpdog Brow, really fills out the album on the harmonica.

Take a listen to our Album of the Week by Sunday Wilde, Peace in Trouble!
