John has been listening to KAXE since the early days in 1976, and has worked as our Development Director since 1995. You can hear him on the Morning Show on Thursdays and Fridays. He is also the women’s basketball coach at Itasca Community College. John loves animals, golf, and complaining about the Minnesota Twins.

Reif Center

The Theater Education program at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids was created to increase possibilities for youth and adults to get involved in theater.   Their production of A Suessified Christmas Carol takes the stage this weekend in Grand Rapids.  Performances will be tonight and tomorrow night, November 17 & 18 at 6:30pm and Sunday, November 19 at 2pm. 

Director Jim Cagle stopped by the KAXE studio to talk about the the Reif Center Theater Education program and the upcoming. 

The Verse Like Water poetry series has brought nationally recognized American poets to the Chalberg Theater stage on the Central Lakes College Campus in Brainerd for the past six years.

John Bauer and Heidi Holtan spoke with Ian Dunshee, historical archivist with the Hill Annex Mine State Park about his work on cataloging the oral histories of former mine workers and artifacts from the Hill Annex Mine.

Brian Jarvi

This Saturday evening, Grand Rapids-based and world-renowned artist Brian Jarvi will unveil his latest work, a 32 foot long arc that includes more than 200 African animal species and a single man.  The public is invited to attend the event that begins at 6pm with hors d'voeures followed by a presentation, a film and ultimately the unveiling of the masterpiece.   The Reif Center marks the first stop for the massive installation that will continue on tour across the country.

Music fuses with literature this Thursday at the Grand Rapids Area Library when Minnesota Book Award Winners Melanie Hoffert, Margi Preus, and Matt Rasmussen join forces with the musical stylings of Ipsifendus Collective.  The public is invited to check out this unique experience Thursday, September 14th at 7pm.
