Album of the Week: Merlynn Belle by Tele Novella

Throughout our newest album of the week, you'll hear flamenco-like guitar, medieval-country, yodeling, witches, spooky and sweet, a taste of Broadway with a side of quirkiness. You ready? The latest from the band Tele Novella, Merlynn Belle, has a little something for everyone.

Tele Novella is based in Lockhart, Texas, made up of singer/songwriter Natalie Ribbons and multi-instrumentalist Jason Chronix. This is their second album, but the first record they've put out as a duo. They wrote and recorded each song one at a time in whole takes, rather than assembling them through editing (which is most common these days). Sticking to that theme, they even tracked the album onto an 8-track cassette recorder.

I recommended this album to my co-worker Sarah Bignall, and her response after three songs in gives a really great description of what to expect: 'It reminds me of music that would be on a Wes Anderson soundtrack!' We're only two months into 2021, but I feel this album is going to be in my favorites for the year.

Check out the album here, and as always, tell us what you think about it!
