Album of the Week: Guarantee by Joshua Henry

Joshua Henry is likely recognized on the streets of New York City for reasons other than the release of this EP. Henry gained notorioty for playing Aaron Burr in the wildly successful play Hamilton on Broadway, and will be starring in Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial film debut, Tick Tick...Boom!.

Henry has been writing songs for nearly a decade, but never pulling the proverbial trigger when it came to recording and releasing music. He stayed focused on acting and performing, until this past year when that all went quiet. During that time, he realized what a lot of us did - who knows what tomorrow will bring?! With that, he decided that he had to give music a full on effort.

He recorded bits in his home while his wife, who is a nurse, spent her hours working in the heart of NYC taking care of COVID patients. In Guarantee, Joshua Henry brings in themes of vulnerability, love and hope born out of the pandemic. Full of heart, but also full of energy and grooves.

This EP will be released on March 4th. In the meantime, check out his first single here, and listen to KAXE/KBXE this next week to hear more from Guarantee.

The music director at KAXE since 2014, Kari (pronounced Car-ee) Hedlund reviews music on the daily. She also hosts New Music every Wednesday (2 and 10 p.m.) and Sunday (noon), along with the KAXE Morning Show on Thursdays.
