BEMIDJI—A French filmmaker and journalist will be on site at the Beltrami County Historical Center’s screening of “En Avant l’Etoile du Nord: Ou La Joie De ‘Vie’” on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 5:30 p.m.

The film is a documentary by independent journalist Christine Loÿs, exploring French history, heritage and identity in Minnesota.

Loÿs will be on hand to introduce and answer questions about her film.

In place of admission, free-will donations will be accepted to support Loÿs' future research.

Spots are limited and reservations are strongly encouraged.

Loÿs lives in Paris, France, where she became an independent journalist after originally working as a teacher, spending more than 30 years contributing to various media, including television.

Her English writing and storytelling skills were developed through writing about health in the medical field.

She writes for women’s magazines like Marie Claire as well as political publications such as L’Evénement du Jeudi, Jeune Afrique and Medef Magazine.

She is currently working on evidence of the French throughout the United States, such as the history and culture of French Voyageurs and their continued presence through their descendants in Minnesota and the Midwest.

To reserve a seat, visit the Beltrami County History Center website or call 218-444-3376.
