GRAND RAPIDS — Join the North Country Trail Arrowhead Chapter along with fellow hikers and trail enthusiasts for a presentation from local long-distance hiker Cory Kolodji.
Kolodji — trail name "Huckleberry" — has always been a hiker and a paddler, a news release stated. In 2021, after retiring from a teaching career he decided to hike the Superior Hiking Trail, which is a part of the North Country Trail, in preparation for thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Learn about his preparation, experience, gear choices and more 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Rapids Brewing Co. in downtown Grand Rapids.
"I'm a pretty ordinary guy. Not an athlete. Not an ultralight gear nerd. Not a ‘young and strong!’” Kolodji stated. “I am proof that anyone can accomplish a thru-hike. The question, then, is why thru-hike when all the trails can be sampled on weekends? Well, I don't know. But the thrill of doing a whole trail and the experience of emersion for an extended period are just really awesome."
Come early to the event to join our chapter meeting and learn more about the Arrowhead Chapter of the North Country Trail Association.
