Album of the Week - Sing to the Walls by Chastity Brown

At a time when we're hearing albums about societal division, isolation, mental health and all of the things we're all feeling at the moment, Chastity Brown has released a new album, Sing to the Walls, that unexpectedly, is a love album. Even the song 'Golden', written after George Floyd's murder in Chastity's home of Minneapolis, while it touches on the anger and rage, exudes a joy that is hard to place.

While Sing to the Walls is a love album of sorts, it's not filled with positivity and excitement. It feels realistic and measured, with some self-love added in.

See Chastity Brown perform at the 2nd Grand Rapids Riverfest, Saturday, September 10th with Shovels & Rope, Wild Horses and Wilco! Presented by KAXE & The City of Grand Rapids, this festival will look out over the Mississippi River at a new venue alongside the Grand Rapids Area Library. Get tickets here!

The music director at KAXE since 2014, Kari (pronounced Car-ee) Hedlund reviews music on the daily. She also hosts New Music every Wednesday (2 and 10 p.m.) and Sunday (noon), along with the KAXE Morning Show on Thursdays.
