KAXE Best of the Weekend Ahead - March 25-27, 2022

Welcome to this week’s roundup of the ‘Best of the Weekend’ events happening around the KAXE/KBXE listening area. This is a great weekend to start limbering up your body for your springtime activities, take in some live music and culture, and maybe even discover some ancient artifacts. There’s plenty to do this weekend, just watch out for thin ice and mud puddles.

Images from Nature: Artwork by Sonja Larsen at the Crossing Arts Alliance in Brainerd

Today is the last day to view “Images from Nature: Artwork by Sonja Larsen” at the Crossing Arts Alliance in Brainerd. Many of Larsen's pieces incorporate imagery of various flowers, leaves, and other botanicals, as well as fish that have been found in the environment around her. She has studied with two Japanese master fish printers, along with several American nature printers, and was invited to participate in a Gyotaku (Fish Print) exhibition in Japan. This is the perfect opportunity to get the anglers in your life interested in the arts. Just please have them wash the scales off their hands before entering the exhibit.

Free Yoga Class at the Olcott Park Greenhouse in Virginia

Also on the Range this weekend, The Friends of the Olcott Park Greenhouse and Botanical Garden is hosting a Free Yoga class in Virginia on Saturday. Bring your own mat and props, and as always, donations to the Friends of the Greenhouse are appreciated. Class starts at 9am.

Discover Fossils at the MDC in Chisholm

Ready to discover fossils? The Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm presents “Fossils Fossils Fossils” Saturday March 26th at 11am. Paleontologist John Westgaard will lead hands-on fossil activities and demonstrations for kids and adults. Do you have what it takes to become a MDC Paleo Member? Come find out!

Live Music in Grand Rapids

Jerry Denny is playing at Rapids Brewing Co. on Saturday night. If you’re in the mood for a mix of folk and bluegrass, RBC is the place for you on Saturday. Music starts at 6pm and runs through 9pm.

Something to Talk About? Yep!

Have a Heart and check out Duluth Does Bonnie Raitt, Saturday, March 26th at 7pm at the Sacred Heart Music Center: The Duluth music community will honor Bonnie Raitt with more than two dozen Twin Ports musicians performing the best of Bonnie Raitt – the hits, select album tracks and some of her many collaborations. For tickets and more information, contact the Sacred Heart Music Center.

If you’ve got an event you’d like to publicize with KAXE, send a message to PSA@Kaxe.org and we’ll make sure our listeners know about it. Enjoy the gusty weather!
