Prior to 'S.O.B.' by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Rateliff was a relatively unknown and under-the-radar solo folk musician. Now out with their 3rd album as a full band, The Future, The Night Sweats have grown into a widely known 8-piece band getting top billing at any venue they desire, playing SNL, and (likely/hopefully) making a stable living.
Written during lockdown, Rateliff touches on both sides of the proverbial future's coin - the bleak and the hope. You can also hear commentary on how he is coping (also how he is not) with his new-found fame. Paired with those lyrics, the music throughout the album seems to encompass all of their musical influences while still putting their own stamp on the sound.
The Future is one to give a full listen to when you have the time. Hear more from the Album of the Week on KAXE/KBXE!
