My family roots are from
northern New York State and settled in rural
Bemidjj, MN in 1973.
My late husband and I purchased land,
raised three daughters all growing up with
KAXE and Winnipeg Folk Festival.
My memories of KAXE go back to 1976,
turning the dial on a battery radio,
hearing for the first time bluegrass music
and discussions with other people in our
area who were homesteading.
I became a programmer
in 1984 sharing the "Patchwork"
program of folk music with Maggie
Montgomery and Valerie Lofthus, each doing
an hour of music and assisting each other
(only vinyl records then).
I like to bring the feel of everyday
life to my programming as well as lots of
Irish/French Canadian and world music.
KAXE continues to bring a sense of
place to listeners.
It connects three generations of my
family and friends to common ground and
broader horizons and REAL people.
