U.S. Supreme Court rulings in Wisconsin in 1983, and in Minnesota in 1999, affirmed the off-reservation hunting, fishing and gathering rights in territories ceded by the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) in 19th century treaties with the Federal Government.  These and other court rulings explainwhy treaties still matter today.
