One Vegetable One Community: Beltrami County

The One Vegetable One Community project aims to inspire gardeners of all levels to plant, grow, cook, and come together around one specific vegetable.  The results of these efforts include more people gardening, more people eating healthy foods,  and more people of all socioecomic levels who have regular access to good food.  This year's feature vegetable for Beltrami County is squash!  Deb Dilley, Betrami County Extension Educator, and Becky Livermore, master gardener and author ofBecky's Bloomers: a garden year in the Northland, stopped by the KBXE studio to talk about the initiative and of course about squash!

Summer,  winter, buttercups, patty pans, hubbard and delicata, in this Local Foods segment,  Deb and Becky break down various varieties of squash.  Everyone is welcome to lend a hand at their "Seeds and Suds" packaging event  at Bemidji Brewing April 21st.  After May 1st, seed kits will be available throughout the county for anyone to pick up.  Seeds kits include seeds, growing instructions, recipes and nutrition information. Later in the summer, growers are invited to enter their squash in the the county fair!
