Campers on the Banks of the Mississippi from New Orleans headed back home

In the summertime we get lots of visitors to northern MN from other places.  Part of the beauty of being on the banks of the Mississippi River in Grand Rapids is that we often get to met the folks who are making the big trek from the Headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico.  Today was our first group of adventurers from 2018 - 3 college students who work on a paddleboat in New Orleans who wanted to prove what they heard their boss say every day - that you could still paddle the length of the Mississippi in this country.

Got any adventures planned this summer?  Tell us about them!

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
