The History of the Suomi Area
Barbara Bunch, local historian and volunteer for the Itasca
County Historical Society, has put together an exhibit about
the history of the Suomi area.

The Oneida Nation's Contribution to Valley Forge
Cass Lake author, Greg Chester, likes digging for stories that
are often lost in the telling of our history. His new book,
"The Oneida Nation's Contributions at Valley Forge",
tells how the Oneida nation, based in what is now upstate New
York, came to the rescue of George Washington and the
Continental Army during the difficult winter of 1777-78.

The Story of George Bonga
Barry Babcock, a local historian, talks with us about George
Bonga and his family. George Bonga was an important, and
often forgotten, Native/African American who was important and
influential in early development of the MN Territory and the
State of MN.

The Milford Mine Disaster

Anishinabe leader Esh-ke-bug-e-coshe, a.k.a. Chief Flatmouth.
Flatmouth lived c. 1774 to 1860, was a great warrior, and
negotiated some of the early treaties between the Anishanaabe
and the U.S. government.

Remembering Rudy
Betty Wilson, journalist and author of "Rudy! The
People's Governor" - the biography of former MN Governor
Rudy Perpich talks with us about his story and legacy. Gov.
Perpich was the only Iron Range Gov. of MN, the longest
serving Gov. of MN, the only Catholic Gov. of MN and was the
first to have a woman running mate.
